Cost analyst in Smithfield, Utah 

An opportunity exists with a major company in Smithfield, Utah as a cost analyst. Growth, stability, and the opportunity to contribute heavily in n environment that rewards the individual. This is a multi-billion dollar company and a leader in the industry.

Job Description

  • Responsible for consolidating plant standard and actual cost changes, communicating such changes to Senior Leadership for approval, attending pricing meetings, monitoring cost errors, following up on issues and aiding the plants in resolving those issues.


  • Product costs are used to value the Finished Goods Inventory and aid in determining product pricing.


  • Establish plant and executive level reporting on inventory adjustments, monitoring organizational results, following up on issues, aiding the plants in resolving those issues, and determining continuous improvement efforts to reduce the amount of adjustments.


  • Inventory adjustments impact lot traceability and food safety.


  • As needed, provide appropriate support in answering cost questions from plant finance, sales, and other partners.


  • Help sales and other partners to understand what drives product costs will help improve product pricing and other management decisions.


  • Provide appropriate financial and operational measurement and analysis as required by the various teams supported. This will aid in reducing waste and increasing productivity.


  • It will also provide a factual basis for decision-making. Assist in the timely communication of results to the teams supported, and ensure that team members understand how their actions affect results.


  • Assist in the direct fixed cost assignment process and complete special projects relating to costs as necessary. This position will, on an ongoing basis, review and improve our cost assignment processes and procedures. Product costs are used to value the Finished Goods inventory.


  • To share in the development of a culture that thrives on continuous improvement and quality principles. To improve the professional competence of the Finance team through use of the assessment process and through the ongoing development of knowledge skills.


  • Work with team leader to establish systems, processes and procedures to collect and record data required for internal and external reporting. This includes maintaining accurate inventory and other balance sheet accounts, charging costs to the general ledger in accordance with the corporate chart of accounts, and determining appropriate accruals.


  • Assist team leader in providing explanations for period results.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. 4-8 years (max) experience in cost accounting, general accounting, or auditing, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Demonstrated leadership, strong communication skills.
Skill Requirement:
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge and use of spreadsheet applications essential.
  • Familiarity with word-processing, graphics, flowcharting, or other software is desirable.
